This is a billboard my daughter is on in South Korea, it is so cool to see your child on a huge sign. The clothes she is wearing in this ad are from a company called Hdex. She told me that this is one of her favorite campaigns so far, as these clothes are her actual style in real life. One of the things in modeling is that you never know what you are going to be wearing. You could be in beautiful gowns in one ad and in the next be modeling a trash bag. You may hate the clothes you have to model, but this is what makes a good model, conveying  an image that makes people want to  buy what you are wearing, even if in real life you personally don't like it. It takes talent for people to pose where it looks natural. Modeling is not as easy as people think it to be. There are multiple castings to go to with no guarantee to even get a job. You learn about rejection really fast in this business and it can make you a very strong person. Many times when models go to castings they get di...

Getting a magazine cover

My daughter on the cover of Elle Greece From Runway Dreams to Magazine Covers: A Guide for Aspiring Models Breaking into the modeling industry is a dream for many, but seeing yourself on the cover of a magazine is a pinnacle that few achieve, especially when starting out. However, with the right strategy and perseverance, new models can turn this dream into reality. Here’s how a starting model can increase their chances of gracing a magazine cover: 1. Build a Strong Portfolio A well-rounded portfolio is essential for any aspiring model. This is your visual resume and should showcase your range and versatility. Work with skilled photographers to create a variety of looks—editorial, fashion, commercial, and more. Make sure your portfolio reflects current trends but also highlights your unique style. Quality over quantity is key; a few standout images are often more effective than a large number of mediocre ones. 2. Establish a Strong Online Presence In today’s digital age, your online pr...

This is a picture from a campaign in Korea by a company called Lady Volume. I think it is so amazing that every picture I see my daughter in, she looks completely different. It's like she is a chameleon of fashion, she can literally be whatever the photographer asks her to be. People think modeling is an easy job, but in reality it can be very difficult. There are shoots where the model is there for 8 hours or more, sometimes shooting over a hundred different outfits and they want you to convey emotions through looks and poses. My daughter has had dead dragonflies placed on her face, she has had to lay in a pond, she has traveled to places where they wouldn't let her go outside at night because it was to dangerous. She has to take flights that are 18 hours long and the time difference is 14 hours ahead of the United States. I would call her on a Friday and where she was it was Saturday.  It's not all hard work though, she gets to meet interesting people from different count...

The picture up above is when my daughter walked in the Dior Fall 2024 Show. She is the girl on the end at the right. It was held at the Brooklyn Museum in New York. You can see the actual show here  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7s5iK9uJRuE . She loves New York so much that she called me last night and told me that she will ending up living there in a couple years. She also told me a very interesting story that happened to her just a couple days ago. She had met up with a friend she hadn't seen for awhile. They were walking in Soho which is a trendy part of New York and both their phones had died. They both were hungry but didn't know where places were to eat as they had no way to see what was around them as their phones had died. They ended up walking past a very swanky restaurant and there were Ferraris in the parking lot, the friend said " Do you want to eat here?" and my daughter said no. She said they kept walking for awhile and for some reason something in her...

Seeing their work

The fun part of being a parent of a model is finding all the work your child has done. It's like being an investigative reporter. You have to constantly badger your child from across the world, what client did you work for, what country was it in, and then scour the internet or magazines for that company and hope you get a glimpse of a picture or a video. You don't always see all the work they've done. Some clients may not even use what they shot or it may be for a campaign months down the road. The video above is something my daughter did in Korea for a company called Hdex. I found it on Instagram under their reels section after searching for hours to try and find all her work in Korea. It still amazes me that this is my child.

The Journey of a Model

Image
Hi, My name is Gene and my wife's name is Cynthia. One of our children is a professional model. She travels all over the world, she is in commercials, she is in ads all over the internet and she was on the cover of Elle magazine in Greece. I don't say this to brag but because I am still in awe that my child has done all of these things and is only 19 years old. I still can't believe that this is real, but there she is on another website advertising clothes or jewelry or whatever it is they think her face will sell and I know that it is indeed real, and I figured other people might want to watch her journey and along the way ask questions about how the industry works, how do people become models, what are the highs and lows, how much can a model make, what do parents feel, basically anything you want to ask and I will try to answer it. I am open to any question, good or bad.
